Ethno is a unique project for traditional/folk musicians aged 16-30. It includes a series of summer music camps held annually in Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Estonia, Macedonia, Slovenia, Sweden and Uganda, and additionally some touring projects for smaller ensembles. Each Ethno draws participants from around the globe. At Ethno, young folk musicians meet to teach each other, by ear, traditional folk songs from their cultures.
Through a combination of workshops, jam sessions, seminars, and performances, musicians have the opportunity to learn a variety of musical styles. Bringing together participants from a variety of cultural backgrounds, Ethno is a space for intercultural learning, friendship, and exchange.
At Ethno Denmark there’s space for 40 participants between 16 and 30 years of age. They´ll bring tunes, dances or songs to teach each other, and make a fantastic concert program, which will be played at a public concert at the end of the week. The music is arranged in collaboration with 3 fantastic artistic leaders. More info about the artistic leaders under “news”. During the week we´ll rehearse intensely, but there´s also room for jamsessions, open mic, dance evenings, nature outings and various creative workshops.
In 2017 Ethno Denmark will be held from the 28th of July till the 6th of August in collaboration with our host CulturArte (Family Degas), festival partner Rethink Folk Music and exchange partner Music Harvest in Palestine.
Ethno Denmark is organised by a group of volunteers from Musik&Ungdom,
the Danish branch of Jeunesses Musicales.
